Business unit involvement key to UT Works’ success

At every step in the process, through planning, initial design, and design confirmation, the UT Works Program has worked with the units that will be using the final product to gain insight and feedback on their processes and how UT Works can help each unit successfully implement the new system. This involvement becomes even more important as the program passes important milestones and moves towards the Fall 2024 launch window.

UT Works Training Materials Development

Training is a key component to ensuring the success of UT Works and the ability of units involved in the program to achieve their goals.

At the end of February, AssetWorks began delivering training materials (documentation) to the UT Works Program. AssetWorks created these materials based on the approved UT Works designs, which included input from design team members in the units that will be using UT Works.

Starting in March, UT Works Program team members representing eBITS, Facilities, BFS (accounting), UEM, and UHD will join in an iterative process to review and improve these training materials. While the goal of the review is to confirm the accuracy of the documentation, the ability of the business unit participants to add their perspective based on real-world experience in their business areas will be key to improving the usefulness of these materials.

UT Works Unit Testing

Unit Testing is another area where the inclusion of teams from each business unit involved in the UT Works Program is critical to the program's eventual success. Unit testing provides an important milestone as it presents an opportunity to ensure the system performs as expected by focusing on and identifying issues in individual system components for correction before End-to-end (E2E) testing. The continued involvement of team members from each business unit ensures that the system will perform as designed.

During the spring 2024 timeframe, each of the Phase 1 modules will undergo unit testing by eBITS and business unit team members.

Unit Testing Timeframes

Each week of testing will focus on a specific area of each module.

  • OM — 5 weeks of unit testing from early Feb–mid-March
  • CPPM — 6 weeks of unit testing from mid-March–the start of May
  • ReADY — Unit testing started on March 1 (full schedule TBD)
