While you may have seen the term Go-Live in previous UT Works Program communications, and some of you may even be familiar with the term cutover from working on physical infrastructure projects, you may not have heard it in connection to UT Works. As these are both terms you certainly will be hearing a lot more often this fall, we felt it would be useful to share a quick primer on what they mean in the context of UT Works.
The term Cutover refers to the transition from the current systems to the new UT Works system. Specifically, when we begin the transition to using UT Works, the first step will be to stop using FAMIS and WORQS—freezing the data in each system—before migrating existing data or cutting over to UT Works so employees can start using the new system.
Cutover ensures that:
- There’s no confusion over where to do work on the part of employees in the transitioning units or campus in general.
- Time and effort spent performing duplicate data-entry tasks in both old and new systems is as limited as possible.
- The process of final checks to ensure that UT Works is ready to use is quick and simple.
Of course, work does not stop during Cutover as the units transitioning to UT Works must continue providing services to campus. Knowing this, the UT Works Program and business units are working together on plans to ensure a smooth transition. Look for more information on these plans this fall after the announcement of the Cutover and Go-Live dates.
Once Cutover completes successfully, Go-Live is the point at which employees will begin using UT Works to get work done. Of course, Go-Live is not the end of the project, as training and support for employees using UT Works will continue to ensure a successful transition.
