Testing Update: User Stories Help Improve Testing Outcomes

A key contributor to End-to-End (E2E) testing success is the collection of user stories created with input from business units involved in UT Works testing. User Stories, which are comprehensive real-world scenarios, allow testers to use the system the same way their co-workers will use UT Works after go-live. Being able to evaluate how UT Works will perform in “on-the-job” situations is key to the successful adoption of the system. Using real-world scenarios means that some user stories are very specific and recognizable.

UT Works Phase 1 Update — Testing Ensures a Successful Launch

Over the past ten weeks, the Unit Testing of UT Works modules achieved an important milestone by ensuring all the parts of the Operations & Maintenance (O&M), Capital Planning and Project Management (CPPM), Go Mobile modules, and their related components perform as expected before End-to-End (E2E) testing can begin. The inclusion of teams from each involved in the UT Works Program was critical in completing testing. These participants completed over 70 different test scenarios during the unit testing period, providing valuable feedback to the implementation team.

With the approval of Executive Sponsor Jim Davis (SVP/COO), the UT Works Program recently released an updated Phase 1 Timeline. The updated timeline includes input from the leadership of units involved in the program and endorses the shared goal for campus to begin using UT Works in the Fall of 2024. To meet this goal, the program will adopt methodologies and practices that prioritize the timeline.

Design Confirmation Begins for Operations & Maintenance (O&M) Module

On Tuesday, June 20, the UT Works Program will release Prototype 2 (P2) of the Operations & Maintenance (O&M) module at a launch event kicking off the Design Confirmation process. This milestone comes after obtaining approvals from the units taking part in the program of the design recommendations documents generated by the two rounds of design sessions, which concluded at the end of March 2023.

Transformation Network Members Receive Program Update

On March 23, members of the Transformation and Communications Networks received an update on the UT Works Program along with an introduction to the Change Management plans the Organizational Readiness (OR) team will use to prepare UT staff for the transition to the UT Works system. Meetings were held for both day and evening shift staff to accommodate as many network members as possible.
